Can Arsenal win the Champions League and Premier League this Season?

Fri, 28th Nov, 2025

Every season, at least for the last four seasons, we have always talked about how Arsenal are a threat and could win the Premier League or the Champions League.

Last season, they came close AGAIN.

Arsenal has finished 2nd in the Premier League for four seasons now and not winning the league last season when Manchester City - their biggest hindrance to English glory - slipped up was an inexpressible disappointment.

In the Champions League, Arsenal looked like they were going for the win and were the only English team to progress to the Semi-Final after dispatching Real Madrid in an unexpected fashion.

Despite the glorious outing domestically and in Europe, Arsenal still did not get their hands on any trophy.

Several excuses were raised about why Arsenal couldn’t get their hands on any silverware. Among the many excuses raised was that Arsenal were “toothlessin attack" according to Gary Neville and then that they suffered too many injuries.

Both excuses are valid and interestingly Arteta did good business during the summer transfer of 2025 when they signed a couple of players.

Only Jorginho and Partey were the only departures from Arsenal that had a starting place in the squad and Arsenal bolstered their team with six new signings:

  1. Viktor Gyokeres

  2. Noni Madueke

  3. Eberechi Eze

  4. Cristhian Mosquera

  5. Christian Norgaard

  6. Martin Zubimendi

  7. Kepa

  8. Piero Hincapie

This has improved the squad depth that Arsenal boasts and we can see that in so many ways.

Their star players, Odegard, Gabriel, and Saliba have all experienced periods of being sidelined due to injury and it has not placed any dent on the squad at all or the performance of Arsenal as a team.

Interestingly, they have faced some of their biggest matches and still earned victory.

The Premier League title race still looks open and the Champions League is not entirely a given but then the question - can Arsenal realistically win both the Premier League and the Champions League this season? - is one that needs to be answered.

The answer is not a straight forward one. We have seen Arsenal play like this over the last three years and still ended up with a trophyless run so assuming they can get two of the biggest trophies they are competing for at the same time could be a huge ask.

But let’s look at it properly.

The Premier League is Arsenal’s playground now.

They have only lost to Liverpool in the league this season and have successfully dispatched some of the Premier League’s toughest opponents.

Now they sit in 1st place with six points clear off 2nd placed Chelsea who they take on this weekend for a chance to go 9 points clear if Man City fails to win again.

In the league, Arsenal have shown defensive coordination - conceding only six goals - the lowest in the league currently.

Even in the absence of Gabriel, Arsenal defense feels safe with players like Mosquera and Piero Hincapie coming in.

They also seem to have perfected their set piece routines and with players like Noni Madueke, Eze, and Trossard, they are a real threat in open play.

Everything about Arsenal’s defense and midfield is well-balanced and their attackers are on point.

Martinelli and Madueke came off the bench in their Champions League fixture against Bayern Munich to put the tie to rest 3-1 at the Emirates.

Talking about the Champions League

Arsenal are top of the Champions League - 5 wins in 5 matches - conceding only one goal.

In the time, they have played against Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid, Athletic Club, and Olympiacos.

No one can deny that they have an easy route to qualification with the only huge fixture for them being against Inter Milan.

Arsenal could finish the league phase on top and this could give them a chance to play a lower-seeded team in the Round of 16 which means Arsenal could make it as far as the Semi Final again this season.

One thing we can point out is the fact that Arteta is no longer overwhelmed by the big stage. Huge European fixtures are not a problem for his team.

Arteta’s attention to detail has been crucial here. His in-game adjustments have improved, his squad rotation is more deliberate, and his tactical approach now mirrors the calculated precision required in Europe.

But still, the Champions League could ask for more especially as we enter the knockout stages.

Arsenal looked this strong when PSG whizzed through them and that’s how tricky the knockout phase can be.

There is a slimmer margin for error in the latter stages of the competition and if Arsenal are going to go all the way, then they would need to capitalize on so many aspects of their opponents weaknesses and stay alert through the matches.

It would be interesting to see how Arsenal fares through the latter stages of both competitions - the Premier League and the Champions League.

Their squad depth is enviable and it could be the deciding factor.

Currently, we have six months in this campaign and Arsenal may be focusing on the EPL and CL but they are also present in the Carabao cup and FA Cup.

Which means there would be more fixtures to play and already injuries have hit several members of the squad - Saliba, Gabriel, Odegard, Saka, Madueke, Martinelli, Gyokeres, Hincapie - but the team has managed.

However, it could get worse with fatigue setting in when it matters most.

Notwithstanding, Arsenal is holding up pretty finely despite their injury woes at this stage and it clearly seems like they could go all the way.

Depth is not about quantity but the reliability of the replacements when it matters most and for now we can see that in the absence of Arsenal’s key players, their reinforcements are good enough to see out good results.

Arteta would hope that none of his key players is sidelined for long and players who are currently injured come to health quickly.

December would be the biggest test for Arsenal - it is for every team but especially Arsenal - as they would play a match every four days. More fatigue and if the players aren’t recovering fast, then it could threaten Arsenal’s position at the top.

Arsenal can win both the Premier League and the Champions League, however there are conditions that have to be met.

First, fitness levels for their key players have to be maintained - Saka, Gabriel, Rice, Eze, Trossard, Timber - would have to be in fine form throughout the season.

Second, set pieces are great but if that is their only attempt to win games, they’d struggle. We already saw that when they played Liverpool and when they played against Sunderland. - two of the three fixtures that they couldn’t win.
