Chelsea and Liverpool are among the major clubs going to Real Madrid winger, Rodrygo who has been in the media showing signs and feelings of dissatisfaction with his lack of playing time.
Under Ancelotti, Rodrygo enjoyed playing time but it was still not as he would have wanted. Xabi Alonso, who took over from the Brazilian coach, didn’t look kindly at Rodrygo too. And the situation is not any different with Arbeloa who’s interim manager after Alonso left the job.
Chelsea FC is one of the clubs who’s ready to make a move for the winger ahead of the 2026 Summer transfer window and it is understood that Premier League Champions Liverpool are ready to table a $118 million offer to convince the 25 year old to join The Reds.
Rodrygo has been instrumental in Madrid’s successes during his stay at the Spanish giants. His league efforts may go under the radar but his heroics during European competitions cannot go by any football fan and analyst.
As a right winger, Rodrygo loves to cut inside and could either unleash a shot from outside the box, dribble deep into the opponent’s 18-yardbox or find a teammate at the far post.
He has been deployed to play on the left side many times and even acted as a number 10 when situation demands. It beats imagination that Rodrygo, a player of his status, would be unfavored at a club that needs attacking options despite the presence of Kylian Mbappe who’s had an incredible first season and is on course for another splendid showing this season.
Real Madrid still values the player but every player is not going to be comfortable with being relegated to the bench and it is easy to see why clubs are trying to pull him away from the Santiago Bernabeu.
Rodrygo’s contract with Real Madrid is valid until June 2028 and the contract he signed in 2023 puts his release clause at €1 billion which means it would take a massive transfer sum and a mutual decision to let the player go for him to be able to make a move.
Chelsea is one team that is interested in pushing for the Brazilian’s signature. The London club has options in the right wing position in Pedro Neto and fellow Brazilian and teenager Estevao. But Rodrygo looks like an option to bolster squad depth especially with his fast pace and finishing.
Rodrygo already fits the idea of Chelsea’s recruitment plan in terms of age and experience but his wages might pose a problem as Chelsea is heavy on maintaining their wage structure.
On the tactical side, Chelsea and Rodrygo can be an unstoppable force. Currently, we are seeing how Chelsea play with controlled possession and transition bursts. They need fast players on the wings who can make runs on to through balls from deep and this is something that Rodrygo is good at - he’s got the pace and can finish superbly.
While Chelsea seems conservative in their approach, Liverpool are ready to go all out.
Liverpool are not shy to go all in for a player and convince them to sign for the club. We have seen what they are capable of doing especially after splurging £125 million on Alexander Isak and £116.5 million on Florian Wirtz in the same window.
Looking at the state of Liverpool’s right wing, Rodrygo is more important to the Merseyside club than he is to Chelsea. The man who has been a regular figure there is the Egyptian Mo Salah and even though he has been very instrumental for Liverpool over his 9 year stint at the club, this season, he’s been a shadow of himself.
There was a time Slot had to give him a relief for some games where he didn’t get playing time and it caused an uproar. So many questions as to his contribution to the team were asked and maybe pressure led to his reinstatement to the squad.
A right winger like Rodrygo is definitely going to bring some attacking power to what’s already existing at Liverpool. He will sync well with Etikite, Isak, Wirtz and Gakpo and reinvigorate the attack of the club.
As of the time of writing, nothing’s been agreed on both player and club side and we are yet to see what it would look like for any of the teams hoping to get the signature of this bundle of talent.
There is the possibility that under new management, Rodrygo can enjoy playing time again but we wait to see what happens before the summer transfer window of 2026.
